Base salary...

...is it to pay some shrink sessions? So that's why we fight for our commissions, mbo, etc....those are the money you really get? This is the impression I am having lately :)

We are different

I have spent an evening with a friend, explaining how Man and Women are different, it's as simple as that! There is a need to get back this very basic concept. We do not need to go against this nature rule. And only in staying different and understanding our differences we would be able to fulfill each other's needs and to realize ourselves within a love relationship.

Naps are source of competitive advantage

I've loved this article in Fastcompany.com "...But here's the reality: naps are a powerful source of competitive advantage. The recent evidence is overwhelming: naps are not just physically restorative, but also improve perceptual skills, motor skills, reaction time, and alertness...."
I agree we tend to under evaluate the power of a nice, but short nap!
Sleep more people!

Turbulent enviroment

Changing your work environment can be very hard.
Changing the people you work with can be even harder.
But every challenge has it positives, learn as much as you can, in any case this will bring you a positive return

Defocus

When facing new challenges, the best way to start for me is to defocus from anything else at first, and see only the final objectives.
Before any new challenge, there is also a preparation time, when I look inside myself and focus on what make me strong enough.

Missing a Knight World

Yesterday I saw a disgraceful scene in a TV show called "Wild", where the protagonist, pretending to be a modern Indiana Jones, killed a lizard that was enjoying his free life. There was no need for that, and there was no fight between the two.
We should protect what we care for and needs our protection, and we should fight for what we believe in. We must not use free violence, and we must not be cowards.
A knight's behavior is something I really miss in this period of humanity, and I believe could help us all.

Moving out of your comfort zone

It could be risky and challenging, but great! Not always looking outside your comfort zone you can have such a view (here from inside a house, the view of Marzamemi's square), but if you are confident, you will be able to prove yourself in a new area. If you go out, do not make half of a step, do a full one!

Be aware not to be framed

I love and hate this picture and its content.
I find these "objects" enchanting except when I think these were free animals.
Many of us tend to be seen in this way by others, and sometimes we do put ourselves in such a frame.
Act!

Can we, 35rs or so, become real adult?

After another call with my mum, where I was "fighting" not to be treated like a little boy who needs something, I was considering that probably we will never "switch".
Maybe, we will never be able to make that "switch" our parents made versus their parents.
Their parents went through one or two wars, our parents lived in a "renascent" era. Our parents grew up, built a life through a new future, and were able to become the adults that took care of their parents.
So, they made the "switch", they become the one on charge and their parents accepted it.
Instead, we are a continuum of our parents, no major "break" happened, they feel they are always in charge...and most of us like this sensation of having someone that can take care of us ;)

How strong are we?

Next on your dining table

Isn't it right?
It should be placed also in every business meeting!

Bottles of life

I am making a big exception to my rules of using only my pictures, but I must give credits to the person that shot and titled this one:

"Life can be summarized in four bottles"

Finally a wonderful art museum...MAXXI

In Italy! And you can have a great chat in front of it!
Well done Rome!

Don't stop being hungry!

I think that if lose the willingness of doing one more step, stop being eager to know something more, you are losing many opportunities and wasting a great characteristic of the human being

Be proud

...and conscious, but don't let anybody bring you down

Barriers

...to innovation, to a broader view of our life, to interact.
Sometimes I feel surrounded by these, but then zooming out, I realize we all are, they can just be wider or tighter, but we can change it. It's up to us....luckily

going up

..it is fun!A lot of fun! Just keep the right perspective, whatever the new view will be, it will be a new one. Don't forget the efforts made to get there, and make the best out of it!

Leapfrog

It has always been written that cultural changes are the most difficult ones in an organization. It is very very true, and the main problem is that if people do not embrace it, they have to be let go, or the whole process will fail.
Failing in applying such a major shift could lead to a failure for the whole company, and for sure in not jumping to the next curve.
Upgrades or leapfrog innovation?
I believe only leapfrog one can lead to real new growth.

Have you ever been frustrated...

...when after waiting for a long time to get the attention of someone, and you get it, in the right moment you realize it and decide to get the best out of it..it's already too late? He's already looking at someone else!

Did your grandfather used to take you to the trainstation too?

Mine used to, and I was fascinated by those big trains passing by the station.
We used to spend hours watching the trains going by, looking at the people jumping on and off.
As soon as the high speed train started in Italy, I loved it.

Love me not

Sometimes, one wrong step can destroy a love. We have to be careful, if you break that delicate undefined magic link, at the base of love, a code is broken (as a wise friend of mine said).
Think always about your next step.

The Art of Innovation by Guy Kawasaki...but applied to Mr.Tyson, my cat

I'm getting tired of writing about lies, so today I'm covering truths. Specifically, the truths of innovation. I hold these truths to not be self-evident; hence we see so little innovation.

  1. Jump to the next curve-->he does it at least 5 times a day, trying new things and inventing new jumps from one place to another in the home
  2. Don't worry, be crappy-->when he does jump to the next curve (see above), he doesn't care if something got broken in the jump...if he succeeds in reaching a higher height and having a better view he is happy
  3. Churn, baby, churn. -->He does try new version of his innovation, lately he wanted to try the jungle jump, junmping on his sister (Cocò) and then hanging on the big lamp in the living room (ver 2.0)
  4. Don't be afraid to polarize people. -->It's just fine for him if he makes us happy, and totally doesn't care about the rest
  5. Break down the barriers. -->he tried to jump into the oven, he did try to jump into the shower, he did dare to sleep on my wife's luxury bags...he does brake the barriers
  6. “Let a hundred flowers blossom.” -->he wakes you up in the middle of the night, "miaoing" a bit...and he just wait for our reaction...food?caresses?
  7. Think digital, act analog. -->he does cool actions, but at the end it's all about having fun, getting food and be on top of our mind and heart
  8. Never ask people to do what you wouldn't do. -->well this is hard...he does want us to clean up his little bathroom
  9. Don't let the bozos grind you down. -->no worries, no bozos can convince him not to jump higher and higher in the home
;)

bottlenecks!

In a sequential processes if only one part of the chain has a defect, the whole process is delayed or screwed up. It happens that even in a 2.0 world people impose this for the sake of the old style of control, closing a parallel or "entropy like" work process with a bottle neck, loosing all the advantages of leveraging great minds working in parallels teams. Organizational (frustration above all) and business (stop to innovation, delays...) problems immediately arise.
This is particularly bad when it happens in a time where all organizations should work in parallel processes or in an entropy model, letting the great to come out with few ground rules set.
Old style managers must make any efforts it takes to change.

In life we should all jump sometime

...dont't always take things so so seriously, make a jump, look at it from a higher perspective and wonder how the picture can change!

martedì 2 marzo 2010

After the last backstage I had the privilege to enter, I am always wondering what all those people running around a fashion show do. The are the models, the stylist, the designers, the owners, the hairdressers, the make up artists, those who dress the models....but still there are other tons of people, acting like stars that do nothing....except acting like starts...it is so funny and fascinating
